HEALTH

Our focus has shifted to major projects involving the upliftment and care of disadvantaged women and children, particularly in hospitals and healthcare facilities.

Etafeni Day Care Centre
HIV/AIDS
ETAFENI DAY CARE CENTRE

We encourage job creation and skills development initiatives for those affected by HIV/AIDS and support this worthy organisation that trains women in beading/sewing initiatives and as carers in the community.

Home from Home
HOME FROM HOME

Our support enables four children to be cared for in loving homes in Khayelitsha. These homes have been set up to cater for the needs of abused or abandoned children.

Won Life Clinic
WON LIFE CLINIC

Won Life was founded in 1999 as a small, informal clinic serving the Fisantekraal community near Durbanville in the Western Cape. Now a vibrant NGO, it continues to reach out to this community of 18 000 people.

Aside from upgrading their existing container clinic, the Truworths Social Involvmenet Trust assists Won Life with nursing services to augment the limited staffing capacity available to this community.

Somerset Hospital
SOMERSET HOSPITAL

We recently sponsored medical equipment, soft furnishings and uniforms, to the value of R2,000,000, for the new paediatric trauma ward and surrounding areas, at Somerset Hospital, which opened in April 2010. The objective of this initiative, in addition to the upliftment of critical medical facilities, was to also improve both the patient and medical staff experience through the provision of equipment to add to the aesthetics of this new state of the arts facility.

MITCHELLS PLAIN COMMUNITY HEALTH CENTRE

Following the success of the Somerset Hospital renovation, we were able to contribute R1,000,000 towards essential equipment, uniforms and soft furnishings for the new Trauma Section at Mitchells Plain Community Health Centre, which was completed in September 2010. The areas where we have made a difference are the Paediatric Trauma ward, and surrounding trauma areas, which has raised the level of comfort and boosted morale of both the patients and the staff. Essential Equipment and soft furnishings were provided for the new Trauma unit and surrounding areas at Mitchells Plain Community Health Centre, which was opened in September 2010.
